I have been getting my eggs from several different families - from chickens who are more like pets than farm animals - oh the difference is unbelievable until you try them. Just waiting to get my own layers!
I am glad you are blowing the whistle!

Peggy, great post! More western reductionist thinking - we'll just feed them Omega 3 feed, there's no difference, right?

When we had our pastured flock, we supplied eggs to 2 large CSA's, and they saved recycled cartons for us. Of course, I had to spend a large amount of time sorting these cartons. Our "local" Northwest egg supplier had about 6 different types of eggs, ranging from cage free, to organic, to natural, Omega - 3, and several other just white or brown. The pictures on their website were deplorable. And I am guessing that if they ran out of organic eggs they just substituted other eggs. It was a total scam, with the Organic, and natural eggs having some cock & bull story about being hand gathered by their family. Blah, blah, blah. I doubted if their organic eggs were even really organic.

The farmers philosophy is what counts, not how much money they can make buy exploiting a niche market.

Again - great post!
