Why this blog? Because I’m trying something old. New to me, but old. I have a good-sized family, large by today’s standards, and many of us have significant food allergies, medical issues and other challenges. Our family is in the process of transitioning from our Standard American Diet to a more locally derived, natural and healthy diet based on “Nourishing Traditions” by Sally Fallon. This is a journey, so please, be patient with me.

Slow Food is an idea, a way of living and a way of eating. It is a global, grassroots movement with thousands of members around the world that links the pleasure of food with a commitment to community and the environment.

SOLE Food was first coined by The Ethicurean in 2006. It is an acronym for food that is Sustainable, Organic, Local and Ethical. That pretty much sums it up for me!

My header photo this season is one day’s bounty from my small patio container garden against the backdrop of a peanut plant that threatens to take over much of the city.

I am not a doctor, nutritionist or other health care professional. I have studied nutrition and herbal medicine and use both to maintain the health of my largish family. Please don’t consider my ramblings to be medical advice, but talk to your own trusted healthcare professionals about your concerns and questions.

I accept no payment or gifts for the articles which appear on my blog. I do not participate in services providing advertising revenue for the products or programs I profile on my blog.
